Dell B1163 Mono Laser Printer Driver and Software Download. While color printers are now the standard, I was pleasantly delighted to discover that Dell still manufactures printers for non-colored printing. Such is the Dell B1163, which I believe is an excellent alternative for folks who frequently print grayscale documents.
The printer is a sleek black box with a control panel on the front that I believe Dell created for the office worker who uses the printer frequently enough to deserve desktop real estate. That’s not to say you can’t use it when standing; the panel has an alternate position that allows for simple access for different placements. You can’t tilt it to the left or right, but it’s still an extremely well-thought-out feature. The panel has a lock at the bottom that supports the panel so that it remains as sturdy when in use, and a latch press is necessary before it can be returned to its original position.
I tested the printer on a Dell notebook running Windows 8, but the system did not identify it right away. The printer was ready to use in minutes after the driver was installed. Each document I send for printing takes roughly 30 seconds to finish, with about 25 seconds spent on data transmission and 3 – 4 seconds spent on printing, so the rate of 21 pages per minute appears to be pretty feasible. Print quality appears to be excellent; but, don’t anticipate award-winning Black & White print from a low-cost printer. In addition to printing, the B1163 can scan documents. One thing I should mention is that the quick start guide in the user manual isn’t especially helpful, as it includes step-by-step instructions on how to open the device to mount the toner cartridge, yet the product actually arrives with the cartridge already installed.
